CASE STUDY Beenish Saeed

Beenish Saeed is a Pakistani author, an award-winning speaker and the franchise founder of LMF Toronto. She founded the chapter in late 2019, launching it in early 2020 as the first chapter of LMF Network outside the UK. Beenish has lived and worked in eight cities across Europe, North America and Asia, driving her work in social, technological and legal impact.

Why did you decide to launch LMF in Toronto?

I’ve always believed that inclusion is a growth strategy. This belief motivated the launch of LMF in Toronto, as I saw a two-fold Canadian socioeconomic problem as a first-generation immigrant: for a country that prides itself on its liberal immigration policies, Canada needs to do a lot of work for its job markets. Around 300,000 new immigrants move to Canada every year, mostly through skilled work and education streams. They are mostly unemployed due to a lack of ‘Canadian’ work experience. With an ageing population, Canada could see huge immigration debts in the future, if adequate employment support is not provided to incoming immigrants. Secondly, for residents under the age of 30, it’s a struggle to build experience in the field they have trained for, in order to pursue employment. LMF Toronto focuses on providing networks to make the right connections, learn winning skills that reduce the length of the job search process and letting individuals gain Canadian work experience with authenticity.
